USES IN CROP PRODUCTION
1. IRRIGATION WATER/FERTIGATED WATER
Plants, seedlings, bulbs and flowers all require nutrients in order to flourish. These nutrients, fertilisers, trace elements are all
fed into the water in order to promote the growth of plants, unfortunately these added nutrients also support many harmful
micro-organisms.
Purogene FB can assist in the control of bacterial and fungal organisms in irrigation and fertigated water. The following are some
of the benefits of using Purogene FB:
High efficiency/disinfection proven against bacteria, fungi and algae at any pH. Works well in dirty water or in water with a
large pH range (2 – 10). Initial dose 1 litre/17,000 litres of dirty water for 6 weeks, once clean a continuous dosage of
litre/40,000 litres of water. After rain /soiling of water, above to be repeated.
No reaction with fertilisers or nutrients
Non corrosive
Easily monitored in water with a test kit
Contact killer with no residue or systemic properties
Promotes germination rate
Proven efficiency against: Pythium, Phytophthora, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Alternaria, Erwinia, Bacterial Wilt,
Powdery/Downy Mildew. (All tests done against spores contained in water)
2. WET WALLS
Purogene FB is very efficient at preventing and / or removing algae formation on wet walls
3. SANITATION
3.1 Sanitation of growing media
Purogene FB has proven very efficient in sanitising growing media before planting. Reduction in the microbial load of the
growing medium greatly reduces any risk of infecting the plants. (As confirmed in a study conducted by the University of
Pretoria – “Sanitation of Perlite Growth Medium Report”)
It is important to flush the media with water until a final rinse of 2–5 ppm residual is obtained since the sanitising concentration
must be considered phytotoxic to all plants
3.2 Sanitation of Equipment, Seedling Trays and Tunnels
General good sanitation reduces/eliminates the incidence of disease in the surroundings thereby reducing the chance for cross
contamination
